Minecraft 27.0 (1.27.0) begins a new chapter for Minecraft Bedrock Edition. Following Mojang's new year-based version numbering system, updates released in 2027 will use the 27.x version number. One of the biggest additions already announced for this period is The Sift, a completely new dimension that will expand Minecraft far beyond the familiar Overworld, Nether and End.

The first details were revealed during Minecraft Live 2026. The Sift originally appeared as an important location in Minecraft Dungeons II, but Mojang has now confirmed that the dimension is also being developed for the main Minecraft game. Players can expect a strange new world filled with unfamiliar landscapes, creatures and materials.

The Sift – A New Dimension in Minecraft 27.0

The Sift is expected to become the biggest feature of Minecraft's 2027 updates. Instead of simply adding another biome to the Overworld, Mojang is creating an entirely separate dimension with its own visual style, environment and ecosystem.

Only a small part of the dimension has been shown so far, which means many of its mechanics are still being kept secret. However, footage and official presentations suggest that The Sift will feature unusual terrain, vibrant environments and creatures that cannot be found anywhere else in Minecraft.

The addition of a new dimension is especially significant because Minecraft has relied on the Overworld, Nether and End as its three main dimensions for many years. The Sift therefore has the potential to introduce new exploration mechanics, blocks, resources and progression systems.

New Mob – The Blub

One of the creatures associated with The Sift is the Blub. This unusual mob has already appeared in material surrounding the new dimension and is expected to become one of its recognizable inhabitants.

Mojang has not yet revealed all of the Blub's behavior or its role in survival gameplay. More information should become available as Minecraft 27.x snapshots, previews and Bedrock beta builds begin appearing.

New Biomes, Blocks and Resources

A completely separate dimension gives Mojang the opportunity to introduce blocks and materials that would not naturally fit into the existing Minecraft world. The environments shown for The Sift already look very different from traditional Overworld terrain.

Players can expect new building materials, vegetation and other resources connected to the dimension. Their recipes, uses and exact properties have not yet been fully revealed, so additional features will likely appear gradually during testing.

Ice Caves Arrive Before Minecraft 27.0

Before The Sift arrives, Minecraft is receiving another game drop focused on frozen underground environments. A new Ice Caves biome was presented during Minecraft Live 2026 and is planned for the current generation of Minecraft updates.

Ice Caves form beneath cold regions and transform underground exploration with frozen terrain, glowing Ice Crystals and dangerous Icicles hanging from the ceiling.

Ice Crystals

Ice Crystals are naturally occurring formations found inside the new caves. In addition to changing the appearance of underground areas, they provide light, making parts of the biome glow without ordinary torches.

Falling Icicles

Large icicles can form above the player inside Ice Caves. Unlike ordinary decorative blocks, some of them can fall, turning the cave ceiling into an environmental hazard. Players exploring these areas will need to pay attention to what is above them as well as what is hiding in the darkness ahead.

Frozen Zombie

The frozen underground biome also introduces a new zombie variant. The Frozen Zombie is adapted to the cold and can inflict freezing effects during combat.

Some Frozen Zombies are also capable of ranged attacks using Ice Balls. This makes encounters different from fights with regular zombies because keeping your distance no longer guarantees safety.

Ice Balls and Freezing Potions

Ice Balls are a new throwable item connected with the frozen mobs. They can be used against enemies to apply freezing effects and are also connected with brewing a new freezing potion.

This gives the winter update more than just cosmetic additions: the freezing mechanic can become part of combat, exploration and player-versus-player strategies.

Minecraft Bedrock Edition continues to support Android alongside other Bedrock platforms. When the first Minecraft 27.x builds become available, Android players will be able to test the new features as they are rolled out through official Bedrock releases and preview programs.
