Mobile gamers on flagship smartphones can now enable ray tracing in Minecraft.

When Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was unveiled, Qualcomm promised ray tracing in mobile games, including Tower of Fantasy. Now we know that Minecraft: Pocket Edition will also add such a feature. It is already available in beta for those who have enabled the “content creator”.

So far, ray tracing in Minecraft is available to owners of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, for SD 8 Gen 1 and SD 7+ Gen 2 there is no such function. Note that some screenshots with RT enabled have very low FPS – 6 frames.

We expect RT on SD 8 Gen 2 to work best on gamer smartphones with active cooling systems. It’s too early to tell when such a feature will be available in the official version of Minecraft, as well as when RT will be added to other video chips, including the Snapdragon 8xx.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus or Galaxy S23 Ultra on Android 13 was probably used to run Minecraft RT in the attached video. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro on Android 12 produced 6 FPS.
