Keys & Crates introduces a variety of crates that spawn organically throughout your Minecraft world. These crates can be unlocked using special keys and tools to reveal randomized loot ranging from common to rare items. Explore different crate types and discover unique treasures as you interact with this add-on.
Installation / How to Use
After installing the add-on, crates will generate naturally in specific biomes and underground layers. Players can obtain keys through trading or crafting, which are required to open the crates. Use the indicated tools, such as Flint Axe, to unlock crates and claim their contents. Some crates can also be found in structures or traded with special NPCs like Crates Traders.
Requirements / Compatibility
- This add-on is compatible with Minecraft Bedrock Edition version 1.21.130 and above.
- Some updates require Minecraft version 26.10 or higher to function correctly.
- Note that certain versions of the add-on may not support seamless updates from older installs due to internal changes.
Key Features
- Multiple crate types including various wood crates, Nether-themed crates, and valuable ore crates like Copper, Iron, Gold, and Diamond.
- Crates generate naturally in corresponding biomes or underground layers for immersive exploration.
- New Trial and Ominous Trial Crates spawn deep underground and can be opened with special Trial Keys.
- Crates Traders and Piglin Crates Traders offer unique trades, including keys and special items.
- Improved structure generation using jigsaw components for more varied and discoverable crate-related buildings.
- Custom mobs with enhanced behaviors, such as Crates Traders with advanced trading animations and Piglin Crates Traders equipped with kinetic weapons.
- Some crates can be used as fuel in furnaces, producing charcoal, except for the Nether Hyphae crates which are non-flammable.
- Keys for opening crates can be crafted, traded, or smelted back into nuggets, adding depth to resource management.

Wood Crates
- Oak Wood Crate
Common rarity. Found in Plains, Forest, Windswept Hills, Beach, Stony Shore, and Mushroom Fields. Requires Flint Axe to open. Stackable to 64. Blast resistance 15.0, hardness 2.0. Flammable. - Spruce Wood Crate
Common rarity. Generates in Snowy Plains, Windswept Forest, Taiga, Snowy Taiga, Grove, Snowy Slopes, and Snowy Beach. Same properties as Oak crate. - Birch Wood Crate
Common rarity. Found in Flower Forest, Birch Forest, Meadow. Same opening tool and properties. - Jungle Wood Crate
Common rarity. Appears in Jungle and Overgrown Jungle biomes. - Acacia Wood Crate
Common rarity. Located in Savanna and Badlands. - Dark Oak Wood Crate
Common rarity. Found in Dark Forest, Swamp, Corrupted Forest. - Mangrove Wood Crate
Common rarity. Generated in Swamp and Mangrove Swamp. - Cherry Wood Crate
Common rarity. Present in Cherry Grove biome. - Pale Oak Wood Crate
Common rarity. Spawns in Pale Garden biome. - Bamboo Wood Crate
Common rarity. Found in Bamboo Jungle biome.
Nether Hyphae Crates
- Crimson Hyphae Crate
Common rarity. Found in Crimson Forest. Non-flammable. Requires Axe to open. - Warped Hyphae Crate
Common rarity. Found in Warped Forest with similar properties.
Ore Crates
- Copper Crate
Common rarity. Spawns underground in Overworld. Can drop Copper equipment. Requires Axe to open. - Iron Crate
Common rarity. Found underground. Requires Axe to open. - Golden Crate
Common rarity. Appears underground. Requires Axe to open. - Diamond Crate
Common rarity. Located underground. Requires Axe to open.
Trading and NPCs
Crates Traders and Piglin Crates Traders offer various trades including:
- Learning Book of Crates Trading at Apprentice level (Level 3).
- Keys for different crates.
- Special items such as Nether Star fragments.
These NPCs have enhanced AI with improved movement, trading behavior, and item handling. Piglin Crates Traders can wield kinetic weapons and react to player actions involving containers and shulker boxes.
Additional Notes
- Crates are not storage blocks like chests or barrels; they serve as loot containers.
- Most crates are flammable except the Nether Hyphae crates.
- Keys and crates can be smelted back into nuggets for resource recycling.
- Some crates and keys cannot be crafted and must be found or traded.
- Use the /locate command in Creative Mode to find crate-related structures by their identifiers.
