THE SMILE FUNGUS
16.03.2026
THE SMILE FUNGUS introduces a mysterious fungal infection to Minecraft Bedrock, arriving on Earth via meteorites. This infection spreads a strange happiness while threatening to drive players mad as it overtakes the world with mushroom growths and sporadic missile showers. Prepare yourself for a survival experience filled with evolving threats and unique challenges.
Key Features
The Smile Fungus addon is inspired by an analog horror series and offers a beta experience compatible with Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.21 and later, no experimental features required. It includes:
- Extraterrestrial Infection: Meteorites land in hard mode worlds, depositing “Smile Fungus” blocks that gradually infect the environment.
- Fungal Spread: The fungus spreads across blocks, creating hostile biomes and infecting humans with diverse stages and variants of infection, each with unique behaviors and appearances.
- Brain Smile Entity: A highly defensive fungal brain that creates protective shells, turrets, and summons neurophage creatures. Staying near it for 2 minutes triggers a powerful guardian called Mycotalamus.
- Cities and Biomes: Procedurally generated infected cities serve as hubs containing resources and missiles that burn Smile Fungus blocks. Fungus biomes spawn advanced infected creatures and turrets naturally.
- Special Items: Includes the Synaptic Catalyst, crafted from drops after defeating Mycotalamus, which grants abilities like knockback attacks and summoning allies when worn with the Smile Fungus Hat Brain.
- Human Infection Variants: Variant A is common and fatal after several stages; Variant C is a rare, more dangerous mutation; plus a rare Exploter variant. Infected corpses spread fungus blocks and apply wither effects to unprotected players.
- Fungus Blocks: Animated Smile Fungus blocks spread infection, are flammable, and can be neutralized with fungicide bombs to create safe decorative blocks that halt infection progression.
- Armor and Equipment: Smile Fungus armor provides strong protection with a mushroom-themed design. Masks prevent wither effects caused by infected entities and blocks.
- Weapons and Tools: Includes firearms and a flamethrower (obtainable from survivors), each requiring ammo or fuel. Turrets can be activated from blocks found in abandoned barrels and repaired with iron.
- Survivor NPCs: Human survivors offer trades for weapons, ammunition, and masks, providing crucial support in this hostile world.
Installation
- Download both the behavior and resource pack files.
- Ensure the files have the
.mcaddonextension. If a.zipextension appears, remove it so only.mcaddonremains. - Open the files to import them automatically into Minecraft.
- Create a new world, then activate both the behavior and resource packs.
- Remember to enable the Beta Experimental Gameplay option in the world settings to allow addon features.

Compatibility
This addon works with Minecraft Bedrock Edition version 1.21.21 and above. No additional experimental features are required beyond enabling the Beta API.
How to Use
The Smile Fungus will automatically appear in hard mode worlds via meteorite strikes that spread infectious blocks. Explore infected cities and biomes to encounter new hostile entities and find valuable loot. Protect yourself by crafting masks and armor, use fungicide bombs to contain infection, and trade with survivors to acquire weapons and gear.
Defeat fungal bosses like the Brain Smile and Mycotalamus to earn rare crafting materials such as the Synaptic Catalyst and specialized equipment that enhance your abilities in this challenging environment.
Additional Notes
- Adjusting game ticks can speed up fungus spread but may cause lag.
- Structures contain abandoned barrels with loot, including weapons and turret blocks.
- Further updates may introduce additional infected variants and infect other vanilla humanoid mobs.
